GOD'S COUNTRY

GOD'S COUNTRY is a 4 piece acoustic Country/Bluegrass band featuring a mix of secular and gospel music. The group was formed in Adelaide in 1998 and plays mainly at concerts, folk and country music festivals, community functions and dances. The music ranges from old time country standards, Carter family songs, Gospel, original Australian material, to red hot Bluegrass pickin' and fine harmony singin'. The band has 2 CDs - God's Country Live and Almost There!

ROB McCARTHY: (Banjo, guitar, mandolin, vocals). Rob has over 30 years experience as a picker and singer. Starting out as a folk/blues guitarist in the 1960's he teamed up with Trev Warner and John Munro (Colcannon) playing Old Timey and Bluegrass. When Trev rejoined Rick and Dennis, Rob and John were joined by Brent Miller (Grassroots) and formed The Skillet Lickers Bluegrass band (later renamed Country Express) which performed every week for over 2 years on The Reg Lindsay C&W Hour on CH9. They also released successful recordings for EMI. Rob has done much session work, recording, and teaches banjo, mandolin and guitar.

JOAN McCARTHY: (vocals, bass). Joan is Rob's better half and has a wide background singing gospel and country. She comes from Minlaton on Yorke Peninsula and has also perfomed in musicals and stage productions.

GRAHAM McCARTHY: (guitar, vocals) Graham is Rob's older brother and has a wealth of experience as a country/folk performer both here and in England where he and his wife Lyn, were professional artists for over 10 years, releasing 4 albums and having their own BBC radio and TV shows. Graham continued in Australia as a soloist releasing several albums.

DAVE OLDMAN: (bass, vocals) Dave (Oldie) Oldman is the group's youngest member and is a fine bass player and vocalist. He's played in gospel, rock, and bluegrass bands and is the real 'outback' boy of the group having worked at Alice Springs and Hermannsburg for some time.
