GRASS ROOTS
GRASS ROOTS is a four piece acoustic, country/bluegrass band rapidly building a devoted following among SA country music fans. Formed as a "one-off" gig for the Riverland Country Music Festival in 1997; The audience response was so great that the band has continued to perform and is currently working on their first CD. The band comprises a wealth of talent and experience in the line-up.
JOHN BOSWELL (lead vocal and rhythm guitar). Born in the UK, John taught himself guitar and played around Melbourne folk clubs and coffee houses in the mid to late 60s before returning to the UK for a 3/12 holiday. The 3/12 turned into 3 years after he joined the SOUTHERN RAMBLERS; the UK's No.1 bluegrass band with many appearances on TV shows such as The Benny Hill Show, the Dick Emery Show and frequent recordings for the BBC. Following his return to Australia in 1973, John played for many years in the country rock bands SOUTHERN COMFORT and COMPANY BLUE.
PETER MILLER (pedal steel, guitar, banjo). Started playing professionally in country music in 1973; has enjoyed long-time success in THE MILLER COUNTRY BAND with his wife Margi. Busily involve with the SA Country Music Council, Pete also finds time to teach guitar and produce albums.
ANDREW HOOK (mandolin, guitar). From Melbourne, Andrew has been playing in various Victorian bluegrass bands since 1980, and has worked extensively with PAUL WOOKEY and with THE RANK STRANGERS; with whom he released 3 albums and who were finalists in the Best Foreign Bluegrass band category in international competition in Nashville, Tennessee in 1989.
BRENT MILLER (guitar, electric bass). Apart from 15 years experience with Singer/songwriter ERIC BOGLE; has also worked for over 25 years with one of Australasia's finest bluegrass bands, COUNTRY EXPRESS. Formed in 1972, they appeared regularly on Reg Lindsay's Country & Western Hour on National TV in the 70s, and have release four well-received albums featuring the band's trade-mark excellent vocal harmonies.
